After nearly 29 years, film producer and director Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shoba Kapoor have decided to step down as heads of streaming service ALTBalaji. Sharing the news on her Instagram, Ekta said that the withdrawal process started last year.
The statement read: “While the process of stepping down started last year, ALTBalaji now has a new team to take over. This decision is strategic and is intended to focus on other businesses. The company is pleased to announce that Vivek Koka has been appointed as the new Commercial Director of ALTBalaji.
In a press release, she wrote: “Good luck to the #alt team!!! Will always share ur posts and lend needed support!!! Let's welcome the new leadership."
Soon after she shared the post, celebrities and friends bombarded the comments section with well-wishes. Sonam Kapoor commented, “You are the best…. I love you,” wrote Sussanne Khan, “To achieve greater things, my friend empowers you and @altbalaji to be bigger and stronger.”
Ekta and her mother joined Balaji Telefilms Limited, which produces most of India's television series, as CEOs and creative heads in 1994.
